Best of Bio Bar 2019

Exactly 10 years ago, the world's first tasting of distillates in organic quality "Best of Bio spirits 2009“ took place in cooperation with the BIO HOTELS. In the meantime, a lot has happened. Especially in the area of bar spirits – ie whiskey, brandy, gin, vodka and rum - the market has changed massively.

Therefore, the "Best of Bio Bar" Award 2019 is not a new edition of past liquor tastings. Rather, "Best of Bio Bar" focuses on the variety and the offer in the area of bar spirits. As tasters, we were able to win a colorful mix of bartenders, distillers and journalists.

  6. BitLik: herbal-spirits, bitter and liqueurs, exotics and various spirits (ouzo, pastis, absinthe, bitter, anise-spirits)

  7. RUM_rum

  8. TEQ_tequila

  9. WHU_USA - American whiskey

  10. WHI_ whiskey – Ireland

  11. WHS_whisky – Scotland

  12. WHA_whisky - worldwide (rest)
     

For some categories, sub-categories are set and the products are rated within those sub-categories.

Jury

The jury will be led by Jürgen Schmücking. Jürgen Schmücking is a sensorist, certified bartender and Master of World Spirits. The panel consists of bartenders from BIO HOTELS as well as distillers and journalists from the bar and spirits scene.

Deadlines

Closing date for participations: 15 April 2019
Submission of distillates: 3 May 2019
Latest payment date for participation fees: 3 May 2019
Tasting of the distillates: 19 – 20 May 2019

 Requirements for participation are

 

  • the timely binding registration

  • sending of valid organic certificates

  • submission of spirits: 2 bottles of each distillate are needed (min. 0,375 l, max. 0,7 l) Please send in only bottle sizes sold in stores.

  • payment of the participation fee (in advance)

After the Best of Bio-Team has received the registration, the order will be confirmed with the invoice. Please check the data stated.

For your own benefit, please provide your VAT number, if you are outside of Austria and inside the EU (VAT ID number). Otherwise, we have to charge you 20 % of VAT on top of the participation fee. In case of subsequent invoice corrections, fees are charged.


No liability is assumed for the dispatch of spirits-samples. Please make sure that you can track the samples with a shipment number. Please understand that delayed sample deliveries will not be tasted and the submission fee will
not be refunded.

Distillates submitted must have a valid organic certificate.
Please note that distillates as a whole must be organic certified; products where only raw materials are certified are not permitted to participate in „Best of Bio Bar 2019“. All IFOAM accredited associations and inspection certifications will be accepted.
 

 

Participation fee

 

The participation fee* is determined by the number of destillates submitted:

 

  • 1 sample submitted € 235,-

  • 2 – 4 samples submitted € 120, - (per sample)

  • 5 or more samples submitted € 110, - (per sample)

* all prices excl. VAT
